Thursday Sep. 18, 2008 Great Lakes Steelhead Fishing - Rick Kustich

Rick began fly fishing over thirty years ago on the lakes and streams of upstate New York. He has since traveled extensively to experience the finest fly fishing throughout North America but continues to find that some of the best fishing often exists in your own backyard. He is the author of four fly fishing books including the acclaimed Fly Fishing for Great Lakes Steelhead and recently introduced his first DVD.

Rick has also authored numerous articles with accompanying photography for national fly fishing magazines such as Fish & Fly, Fly Fisherman, and Eastern Fly Fishing, and is a regular contributor to two regional publications. Rick provides seminars and schools throughout the year on the Great Lakes steelhead fishery and other fly fishing topics. He fly fishes nearly 80 days each year and is involved in conservation efforts aiming to improve and protect fisheries. Rick is owner and operator of West River Publishing and lives in Grand Island, NY on the banks of the Niagara River.

Thursday Oct. 16, 2008 Don Douple

Thursday Nov. 20, 2008 Ken Tutalo

Ken, the owner of the Baxter House River Outfitters has been fishing the waters of the Upper Delaware for over 30 years. Over the last 8 years while operating the Baxter House, Ken has shared his knowledge and love of the local waters with hundreds of people. When not guiding or helping customers in the Fly Shop, Ken can usually be found stalking the glass like pools of the East Branch for Wary Browns or wading the pockets of the Lower Beaverkill for Wild Rainbows.

Thursday Dec. 18, 2008 Christmas Party & Third Annual In-House Auction
Thursday Jan. 15, 2009 Mark Sedotti

Mark is a respected fly casting instructor and teacher who has written articles that have been published in the: “American Angler, Fly Tier, Outdoor Life, The Fisherman,” and more featuring trout, pike and other species of fish. As the Casting Columnist for Saltwater Fly Fishing Magazine (1995-2000), Mark is known for his articles on Striped Bass, Bluefish, and False Albacore.

Mark Sedotti is known for casting unusually large flies (4" to over 24") tremendous distances, with uncanny accuracy. Both things once thought impossible. He does this with a unique, ultra-powerful back cast called the "Sayonara Sling". He casts distances with magnum back casts of 120’-140’

He's also had some of his fly patterns, such as the Sedotti's Slammer menhaden series, the Sedotti Mackerel, and the Sedotti Flounder, to name three, featured in articles and fly tying books. Many of his patterns are giant and are castable by design, because of his concept of "weight balancing", which involves adding enough weight to the fly to counter (and negate) a pattern's drag. He's now into tying patterns that exhibit strike triggering actions, similar to what you see in many popular soft plastic baits.

Fly Casting columnist for Saltwater Fly Fishing Magazine from 1995 - 2000, he also wrote many articles on Northeast fly fishing, and fly tying, for that magazine as well as for other major publications. Many pieces were about freshwater fly fishing too. A very skilled fly casting instructor, he's taught fly fishing at the college level in the New York City Metropolitan area for years as well.

Come join us and meet Mark Sedotti.

Thursday Feb. 19, 2009

Dean is a Berks County native who was introduced to the sport of fly-fishing by his father at the ripe-young age of 6. His dad ignited the passion for the sport by taking Dean to his uncles spring-fed pond where they hooked many steelhead-sized rainbows. The addiction, though, did not really start until the age of 12. That is when Dean caught his first wild trout off the surface in good 'ole Penns Creek. To this day Dean continues to fish the numerous streams of Centre and Mifflin county as much as possible. These would be considered his 'home waters.' Furthermore, Dean has chased trout all over the Northeast along with many western states on rivers such as the Madison, Big Horn, Yellowstone, the South Fork of the Snake, the San Juan River, the White River in Arkansas and even the Alagnak River in Alaska. Since his college days, he has expanded his fly-fishing knowledge by targeting smallmouth bass on the Susquehanna River, shad on the Delaware and steelhead in the many Lake Erie and Ontario tribs. Recently, Dean has attained the thirst for the salt. Going after stripers, bluefish and weakfish along the New Jersey Coast, Martha's Vineyard and Boston Harbor. About seven years ago Dean started guiding for Tulpehocken Creek Outfitters in Reading, PA which led him to start Fly Fish Pennsylvania with a college buddy. Recently, Dean and FFPA co-owner Jake Markezin, along with other like-minded anglers founded the Lehigh Coldwater Fishery Alliance.
