Apr. 11, 2006 | Paraleptophlebia adoptiva (Blue Dun, Blue Quill, Iron Blue Dun, Slate-Winged Mahogany Dun). We saw a few of these last weekend at Resica Falls. I didn't have any in my box, so I thought - better tye some up for opening day. This little mayfly appears mid April to early May. It's a size 18 to size 16. Last year I began tying most of my drys with quill bodies. I looked around for a suitable quill, then on my tying table I saw some grouse tail scraps. Hmmm, the tips were a nice chocolate brown and they inspired me to try them for the Blue Quills body. Here's my receipe: Hook: Mustad 94840, thread: brown, tail: medium Blue Dun, body: grouse tail tip (2 fibers twisted), wings: medium dun hen, hackle: medium dun < and some pictures > |
