I was up at the trailer till weds . Opening day found me up in my treestand at 6:00 Am . M y stand is set at the edge of a huge clearcut facing into a dog hair forest with the clearcut to my back opposite as last year . At about 6:15 I heard all this comotion at the fence ,a huge part of the clearcut is fenced ibn some kind of experiment . Any way this racket sounded like someone or something trying to get out it was still real dark so I flashed on my light to see a nice deer bolt off . That was 1 deer shooting time came at about 6:40 with very little shooting sporadic at best anbd none around my area . About 7:30 it started raining drizzel at first then a medium but steady rain all the way thru the 7 hour . Along about 8 am I had my hood up wethering out the storm when I caught movement to my right.I glanced over to see a one racked buck not 10 feet away . Well I tried to slowely bring my rifel up but he caught the movement and bolted I whisteled and he stopped but by the split second it took to gret a bead on him he bolted again . I nevwer did get a count on that 1 racker That was deer 2 . About 10 I hear some shots fired below me and few minutes later a nice buck comes running up along the fence in side . I was sure it had 3 points so I whisteled but he would not stop he did turn and run out aay from the fence this gave me the broadside shot I put the bead on his very front chest to lead him a little and at the report hhe lurched and did a backflip . I gathered my gear and lowered it down to the ground I climbed in the fence thru the gate and proceeded to get my buck . When I reached the buck my heart sank it was only 4 pointer 2 points on each side and not legal . Well if that dont beat all so I went ahead and gutted him draged over to the gate and went up and called the gasme comission . Thwey told me I would pay a 25 dollar remidiation fee for a mistaken kill and there will be nothing held against me . I was told to go over to State Coledge and report to the transfer station at 2pm . I went over and there was already like 5 other guys with several more behind me all for the same thing bad kills . Most were spikes that were too big to qualify as antlerless . Mine was the biggest although some spikes were there that were almost a footlong . I t wasd a painless deal I thjought I would surely loose my license but by turning myself in nothing wwas held against me . I gave up my buck but the officer gave me another buck tag my afternoon was shot so I went to the market on the way back to camp and got me a nice t bone ate and went to bed about 8 oclock . Tuesday I hunted all day and saw nothing . Weds I slept till 7 WENT OVER TO TAKE A SHOWER AT THE BATH HOUSE AND HAD AGOOD BREAKFAST . i WANTED TO HUNT MY LAST DAY OVER AT MY DMAP AREA WERE i DREW Adoe tag I hunted there till 12:30 and saw nothing . So in two full days of Hunting I saw 3 DEER KILLED 1 AND IT WAS TOO SMALL . I think what the gamecomission is doing is good for the bucks because the ones I saw hanging were all nice racked bucks . But the deer are just not there in the numbers they were 10 years ago I can remember on opening day all the guys in camp we collectivly saw over a hundred animals mostly does and antleerless bucks . But now to see 3 deer in 2 days of hunting thats a big diffrence I think all this doe killing needs to be curtailed at least up state . The gamewarden says that they have anice managabel heard now I dissagree the deer are there anymore likethey once were I would like to see more deer to keep you in the game and not as boring . I still love to be out in the forest were all you hear is the occasinal shot and the wind . Tomorrow Ill be over at the woodlot .
the heck with killing those deer - you should of came fishing with the cheep skate gang - we had a great time, good weather and all caught fish. <*)))><
