Hi Guys
I just wanted to touch in on the new rods I bought toward the end of last year.
As some of you may know I have been using Sage rods for ever. Especially the older 2 piece models like the RPL, SP and XP. Almost nothing out there can out preform them when it comes to fishing and the feel of the rod loading through and into the forward cast. Plus the accuracy and distance you can get out of them is fantastic.
As many of you know I have broke down and finally bought two new 4 piece rods. I still stand firm that most of the 4 piece broom sticks out there are designed to cast bobbers with only having most of there action up toward the top section of the rod. After talking to some people and testing them for myself first. The only reason I bought these two rods is I could tell and acutely feel it through the stroke that both of these companies have figured out the right way to design a four piece rod.
The Hardy WRAITH & the Gary Loomis EDGE.
I have been fishing these two rods for almost a year now and let me tell you I may never go back to buying the older Sages. They are that good.
When it comes to feel, accuracy and distance I have never seen or cast anything like both of them.
The EDGE is lighter then the Wraith but as Gary Loomis has always been known to say, “weight is a deterrent to performance,” So it is lighter then most rods but performs like no other rod I have never used. Plus if and when you need power to reach out for that long cast it is right there and with accuracy like no other stick.
As for the WRAITH, being a little heaver in hand but you really don’t feel it all that much. It seams to do everything you would expect. This rod almost seems to cast by itself. All you have to do is apply the power where it is needed. I have not found and faults with either rod. Both perform like no other when it comes to balance, strength, recovery, and weight. You should do yourself a favor and try casting both of them. But look out, you may end up like me, having to buy both rods. Lawn casting is ok but the true test is on the water and these rods perform way beyond any other.
I do love fishing the big water and I have not yet come across any fish this season that I could not reach. Bad news for the fish I guess but great news for me, for this is what I have been looking for out of a rod for a very long time. More so this year then in years past I have been approached by other fisherman on the river with really nice comments. Most of them the same, like how in the hell did you reach that fish or something in reference to how do you cast that far and make it look so easy. I’m not looking to impress anyone, I am just out there fishing and having a good time but it does feel good to here what people have to say.
Chris at the Sporting Gentleman is the dealer and can get these rods for you, plus she may even have them in stock for test casting. Stop in and talk to her about them. You won’t be sorry.
PS,
I have broken the EDGE already. I almost sh-- when it happened. It broke through the forward cast right where all the power was applied, just at the ferrule connection. I guess I tried to push it to hard. I called the factory and they are bending over backwards to fix it for me. The Wraith is well and going strong.

Fishing has been very good. Plus due to the warmer water in the main river the west branch is just loaded with all the big rainbows.

I was looking to buy a couple of rods and I'm glad that I read your review as I was thinking for another brand. Going with your recommendation and will let you know my thoughts once I use them once or twice. |
