A week ago I fished the hog hole this is the hole on spring creek in Bellfonte just below Tellyrand park just below the restricted area . At the right time usuauly after a significant rainfall this hole can hold some giant trout . These fish migrate downstream from the feeding station no doubt following the washed out bait pellets that the rising water flushes out . As there has been no significant rainfall the hogs are still up in the restricted water getting even bigger by all the handouts the tourists feed them along with bread that is fed to the ducks . Anyway it is still a great place to fish but you have to approach from downstream near the lamb st bridge and fish youre way upstream . There are still lots of wild fish all through spring creek so normal nymps and drys will work through this stretch . However as you approach the Veterans bridge you want to use bait fishing techniques . For instance still use youre nyphing tecniques but switch youre nymphs to lets say a greenweeny and a white glowbug or a pelt fly and sandwan worm . Also you want to be on the street side of the creek there is anunderwater sidewalk that provides easy wading right up to the restricted area you have to zig zag back and forth from downstream were you enterd to get on this sidewalk . I have fished all over Pa and other states as well as Alaska and the great lakes and have never had so much acesess to bigger trout . The town of Bellfonte has revamped this whole area with a park like setting that prallels this whole stetch wich will eventualy lead to real easy acess from a sidewalk that paralels the stream however it is closed off with keep out signs all along this new area . With all the other streams around ABOUT DRIED UP or water temps that are near 80 this stretch of Spring creek is the only game around . Last week with air temps near 100 this stretch stayed in the low 60s by the way I managed 1 palomino about 15 and a big sucker that went about 20 inches with 1/2 a face no doubt from pushing over stones to feed this is all I could do as the heat was getting the better of me I hope to try again this afternoon if the rain will hold off .
