Lots of high high high water. With all of these bad summwer storms coming thru we have hiwater all around the mid atlantic .There is no need to stay in and wish for better conditions you just have to adjust youre tactics . I for one love hiwater in the summer it busts those locked jaw fish into a fedding frenzy especialy for big old fashioned streamers . I f the water temps are ok string up youre favorite long fly and a good heavy leader and preferably a sinking head or my favorite a chunk of leadcore with a piece of 8lb test the whole deal is maybe 2'.To this I tie on a big #4 white ghost or other big profile streamer and heave the whole thing into the banks methodicly hitting all those nooks and cranys along the way you have to experiment with youre retrive but try 3or4 at every location till you get the right one . Dave Baker the ole pres himself was famous for getting fish with this method he could make a fly do a momba dance that would entice Jona himself . Here are a few recipes for some easy bucktail conversions
Hook Mike Martinke Rangely steamer hook 6xlong#4 #8
Body silver mylar doubel wrapped back then forward
Rib silver wire
Wing whitebucktail over wich is green bucttail topped with black buctail
Head black tying thread 8/0 with lacquer eyes yellow with red pupil
This conversion is for the old 9/3 streamer
Other types are the red white ,chartruse /white , Tricolor white orange and green topping this is an old bucktail by Herbie Welch from the rangley Maine area it represents a crayfish .
I also came up with alot of my own color combinations too numerous to list here I also tie about 6 bodys and give them all a good coat of Sally Hansens and set them aside before I tie in the wings this will add a few more fish before the fly gets destroyed . Happy tying and stick a few lunkers .
