I think everyone is entiteled to their opinions and the old saying rings true "OPINIONS ARE LIKE A HOLES EVERYBODY'S GOT ONE AND THEY ALL STINK". . This will probably raise a few hACKELS ON SOME OF THE OLD SCHOOL / TRADITIONALISTS OF THE CLUB . This whole thing on nymphing technique ,beadheads , check nymphing is considerd by many of our members to be nothing more than baitfishing . I say hogwash to these naysayers if this is the comon method used in the "WORLD FLYFISHING COMPETITION " and it is the accepted method used by all competitors then why cant our club members be enligthened by these WORLDWIDE methods ? I think we should have one of these nymph experts come and do a presentation it is a very efective way to get youre nymph on the bottom and a drag free drift . I think everybody needs to open their minds and ditch these old school closed minded ways and try something new that has been in practice in europe since halfords time .

You were the one who hates competition in fishing, but you'll get all excited by the extra special WORLD FLYFISHING COMPETITION, OOOH. Fishing with worms goes back before halford's time, get yourself a bunch and some bobbers while you're at it and join Jerry's kids at the concrete pond on opening day. Fish anyway you want, just don't call it fly fishing.

I think if it is an ecepted method of the 'WORLD'flyfishing competition then it is considered a form of flyfishing . Why dont you try and beat these guys on the stream with youre wetfly techniques .Put youre money were youre mouth is and try out for the team . Maybe if you do not make the team Lance Egan will let you be his netboy or caddy then you too can come on over to a method that has won the WORLD flyfishing competition for many years in a row .

All right, I'll bite(pun intended). If you are using anything that would be legal in a fly fishing only section of a stream then you are fly fishing. I don't care if you use a noodle rod and mono as long as there is a legal fly on the end. Chech nymphing, French nymphing or whatever they call it today is just another way to get your fly to where the fish are. Hell, what about these guys that tease up marlin and then throw a fly out and hook it. Is that fly fishing? Of course it is. Its just the method you use to catch that type of fish. It would be mighty hard to use a full sinking tip to get down far enough to hook a marlin without teasing it up.
IF you want controversy lets talk about the coffee bean fly. You know, the old glue a bean to a hook and use it as a beetle imitation. Now is that a fly or bait? As one fish warden I asked said "If you put hackle on it I would consider it a fly but I wouldn't want to have to convince the magistrate"

I don't think it's bait fishing, I think it can be done with a spinning set-up and I have no desire to do it. I also don't care about competing to catch fish, it's a stupid idea. As a matter of fact , I don't care to compete outside of the business environment and never have. If you buy your license, fish anyway you want, I do.
