Well I have not been up to my camper since last spring still due to financial woes . I am now working for 1/2 the pay I normaly get but I am glad to have this new work . I was not abel to leave till friday as the turkey day festivitys and soforth . I got up and headed out around 6:30 am I stopped at cumberland farms for agasup and coffee. As I was waiting for my turn in the coffee line a young girl was behind me and I asked her if she was going to work she replied ,"no shopping". Well that made me laugh as I thought thats agood way to get a chick up early shopping.Anyway the traffic was not bad even out around Harrisburg as I stopped at Bass proshop for some supplys for my stay and a turkey fan mounting kit for my gobbler I shot last spring . I arrived at camp and opened up the trailer suppprising it was not that bad after not being there since late april . I tidied up abit and unloaded the truck of all my hunting stuff and food and soforth . Aftyer this I went out to try for a fall turkey wich is unlike spring turkey were you try there sex appeal and its males only henceforth the namesake spring gobbler season . I n the fall you are trying to reassembel a flock after it has been scattered by hunters or other predators fox/coyotes. You can walk and call and look for fresh scratchings or just listen and try to run in and break em up or you can use a popup blind and an easy chair and sitstill and call out of the elements and thats all me . So I WAS IN MY BLIND ALL FRIDAY AFTERNOON AND NEVER HEARD ANY TURKEYS JUST DEER HUNTERS SHOOTING THERE RIFELS AND SIGHTING IN TTHERE IS ACAMP NEAR THIS SPOT AND THATS WHAT THEY WERE DOING . I had my 22 with me so I stated plinking at stumps and whatnot I like the crisp crack of the 222 and it is what I calll my lays potato chip gun you juast cant do 1 .Any way I stayed till almost dark and did not hear any turkeys probabbly cause of all the shooting so I left . Sat I GOT UP EARLY AND WENT DOWN TO PENNS CREEEK BACK BY lOVES cabin and set out 6 decoys and sat up on the bank under a hemlock no ducks even though it was agreat ducky morning old tazz fell asleep thats a sure sign there will be no ducks if Tazz falls asleep we stayed till about 8:30 and not even a mergy flew by . We went basck to the trailer and had some breakfast .I went back out to the turkey spot till noon and came back and had some lunch no turkeys . I would have liked to gone after grouse but I did a bonehead thing on thaksgiving day that cost me my model 870 remington 12 guage but thats a story for a diffrent time any way I bassicly drove away and left it behind so I have no more 12 guages and I am not hunting grouse with my 10 guage and thats the gun I brought with me on this trip . Later in the afternoon I went fishing it was very cold and the water was only 38 a tad cold but also very low . I tried dead drifting my sculpin fly up through anice riff above were elk creeek comes in no takes . I tied on a white streamer and came back down on the way back down I saw Chris Mcgeehan and Rich Linder they said they only hooked 1 fisdh all day it was deffinatly slow . O ne of the guides was out from Jonasas and he said they got a few on eggs .After the streamer session I went up and got my nymph rod and fished a white worm fly/Godfather and a globug tied to that nothing by now I was numb so I packed it in and went back up to my trailer to change and warmup a bit I came back to meet Chris and Rich at the feathered hook they were watching the PENNSTATE/WISCONSIN game on the bigscreen tv in the back room . The kid that was working the shop had to close so we relopcated into the band b but we could notget the game . Chris and Rich went on to the Elk creek cafe for dinner and I went shopping at weavers store and I gat a great deal on some muck boots for hunting kind of like uggs for men are they comfortabel . After that I went back and grilled me a nice venison loin that was marrinating all day it was gooooood and I shared it with tazz . I also took a nice long hot shower at the bath house that was the best 50 cents I spent in along time . My hotwatwer heatwer broke back in August and now everytime I take a shower its like joinig the polar bear club so that hot shower was areal treat . Anyway I told Santa to put a new hotwater heater in his sled for me . Sunday I broke down the camp and put evrything away till spring and packed up the truck and split about 3 . I hit traffic right away at Potters mills and it was backed up all the way to lower georges valley rd. After that IT WAS CLEAR SAILING TILL RT 81 WERE IT MERGES AT 283 NEAR THE E/W TURNPIKE i WANTED TO GO TO cABELLAS BUT 81 WAS ALL BACKED UP SO i JUST GOT ON THE TURNPIKE AND CAME HOME IT WAS CLEAR ALL THE WAY WITH NO JAMB UPS .Tats it till next spring .
Yeah Birky, the fishing was slower than I hoped but I got to check out some new water. I won't let the year end on that note. I'm up for at least one more outing before year's end, this has easily been the best year of fishing I have ever had. I fished every month and caught more nice fish throughout every season, I may even run back up to Penn's to finish out the year.
