Hey what are folks using these days? Way way way back in the day,a decade a way. When dad and I would come back from fishing. The routine was pull the line off the reel on the wash the line in the kitchen sink with Woolite. dry line on with towel then rub saddle soap in the line. I hear ya "next he's bringing back the bell bottoms and Disco". Well times change went to Dawn to strip off the toxins then wax from fishing Wissahickon creek. Then applied Cortlands silicone XL worked for a time but then got gummy. I tried spray silicone,Armorall, 3M Scotch guard( better on dry flIES then the line). Then the "new lines" came out. Went back to soap and water then Orvis "zip juice, and most recently RIOs agent X. The X works o.k. but wonder what might be better. Had a work in Pheonxville today, afterwards I stopped into a outfitter to see whet was " the greatest slickest stuff". Jack was not in till May 7th or so and the guy behind the counter said "all good.... well I spin fish for Muskie". I looked at Fish pimp, Orvis as a new clear spray, loons line speed looks a lot like agent X. Call a friend he uses turtle wax synthetic car wax REPELS WATER, UV protects works on rubber, metal, glass $8.97 for 23 ounces well folks if it does not work my car will be shinny!! This stuff looks a lot like the Orvis new clear spray but does not smell like team spirit. Now I will open this up to the masses. What Do you use and how does it work for you? Oh I almost forgot clean your rods cork and eyelets. |

I don't use any additives, just clean it once in a while with a scotchbrite pad and spool it back up. I tried the sharksin line and buy it when I find it on sale, that line sails through the guides like nothing else. |

Soap and water and you should cleasn it before you fish not after . Ever y co is diffrent and some of these cleaners actualy attack the coating it seems like if you leave it on there after fishing it attacks the coating but if you use it before you go fishing it will be better as the cleaner will wear off while you are cassting . I tssems to me that the sun is the biggest enemy of fly line so why not try some sunscreen before you go what harm could it do? |
