Lehigh Trinity and the bait bomber
On the Sat before Fathers day a bunch of guys met up on the Lehigh above the Bowmanstown boat ramp. I got there late just as Pete, VP Todd, Three Fingers and his buddy Mike declared the river too high to wade safely and they were going up river. Sam was there by himself so I ended up fishing the day with him in case he fell in again. Apparently he fell in earlier and I thought if he drowned I could snag some flies before I called Phyllis.
We went down the river just above the boat ramp where the river widens and wading was easier and we both caught some fish. I landed a 12” brookie followed by a 18” brown that looked like a tiger trout and finally a rainbow. So I’ll call that a Trifecta. Sam stated for a Lehigh slam I also needed to catch a chub and smallmouth.
The kicker is that while releasing the brown a local hippie with a ponytail and spin rod came down and asked if I was done fishing there. “No” I replied, “I’m going to fish more”. “Ok, I’ll just go downstream” which ended up being between Sam and myself, freakin hole jumper. Next thing I see is him leaning back on his rod looking like a snag. Then he starts walking back to the bank and says he has a big fish. “Was that your 4th cast or so”? “Nope , it was my first”. Bastard threw in a worm and ended up with a 25” brown on the first cast. I told him that was going to be my next fish and he has better go home as it will all be downhill from there.
So after he landed the fish which was the largest he ever caught in PA he left.
Still plenty of big fish in the Lehigh so go throw in some worms.
