Posted - 08/08/2016 : 12:07:32 Well they had the ribbon cutting ceremony up at Bellfonte at the new area that paralells the creek . This new area has been a long time coming like 2 years it enabels easy access to all the holes between the bridges in downtown Belfonte . For years this area was closed to fishing as part of the "sanctuary" of Tellyrand Park . The fish in the park are off limits and are fed by tourists from a nearby pellet machine were you can pay 2bits for a handful of pellets and feed these giant trout some are 3 footers . Like 3 years ago they opened the piece between the 2 bridges below water street and lambs street there were lots of lunkers hooked and some landed . I for 1 hooked a giant brown that went about 3ft it looked more like a king salmon than a trout but as Ihad a4wt the battle was lost before it realy got started.Last sat the 6th I headed up to bellfonte to try my luck in the new digs it was realy nice kind of reminded me of fishing in European type setting with all the new stone work that kind of makes a manmade boxcanyon with lots of pocket water . There are a set of steps on the lower end near the lambs st bridge that will alow you to fish up to a low head dam than you have to go back to the steps or climb up the wall to continue up to the next hole were the top has another low head dam it seems diffacult but a lot easier then climbing down the embankment on the otherside this is a lot easier . This is realy a neat place to fish in an urban setting with people walking by along the creek and with a morning temp of 58 what could be better . I went back after dark to swing some wetflys no good but I did catch like 6 in the morning with my godfather fly and glowbug nymphing up thru this stretch . The night fishing was very different as the area is light up with small lights built into the walls like pool lights that illuminate the sidewalk this is a popular spot for couples out for a stroll so the scary feling you get in other night fishing spots is not a problem .There was another guy night fishing there as well he was on this newwave mouse craze that is the norm among the younger night fishing as close to dryflty fishing as you can get and still see the wake of youre fly ,Im not buying in to this mouse business as I have been using the pusher and professor for 30 plus years and it has treated me good no need to change . |
