I hit the poconos hard in the spring and then ignore it the rest of the year. People do that because they think the water gets too warm in the heat of the summer to sustain trout, but if you look around long enough there are places they hold over. I have found several places with springs on public lands that have the black pocono trout, they are the darkest fish I've ever seen, here's my favorite, the black rainbow. Miles of bushwacking, years of searching and hours of flailing a rod, get started while you're young. I reserve it for the spring and it's my start to the season.

It's all good, I'm sure others fish this spot, it's just a mother to get to the fish. One step in and you're up to your armpits, it's that kind of water. The most I've ever fished it is three times in a season but Ed is right, if you can keep up I'll show you every place I fish and if you're adventurous I'll show you places I haven't tried yet. The main problem is that I go on a moments notice and don't like to wait but I'm working on that. Birkie, this spot is spring fed or just deep enough to hold over trout. Dry, there is only one net, look closer for another clue to the type of water it is. It is beyond tannic. And yes I carry a thermomometer and I know how to use it. |

Some folks dont get the whole temperature thing . I for one have spoke on this till I m blue in the face but some folks just ignore it.The magic # for trout is 62 degrees the cut off when you should not fish unless you plan on kepping every trout you catch cause they will die at this temp and that temp is 75 anything above that and they will start to die . The most important tool you should carry when trout fishing is the themomator it will save you lots of fruitless fishing . Remember the temps are 55 to 70 for top quality fishing or what the pros call optimum temps . By the way almost all the pocono streams drain big tepid swamps up on the pocono plateau these swamps are formed by basins wich collect rainwater and are not spring fed although they are pretty they realy are not trout friendly come june unless we have rain every week but most are shot by july . I f you like the pocono area and the pretty settings you should fish the tailwaters wich have better temps all summer the big Lehi below FW dam and of course the pohocopo below Beltsville . |

Boys, truly all in fun...since all spots are fished no spots are " secret" just not as hammered.

I do not want hog the thread but since analogs phones WENT BY THE WAY SIDE (now you know why) and GPS is now not used by military only and most cars have black boxes.

That a little too much information from a simple picture.I think that the fish are holdovers, I just don't know the last time rainbows and browns were stocked in this area. I love the black color, they are not washed out, they're just black from the water passing through their gills. If you don't have a secret spot then you haven't fished hard or long enough. |

Couple of questions are they stocked?? Pectoral...fins poor condition(race-way fish)
Empty stomachs and lack of color = poor diet) looks like opening day on the Wissy.
I hear of some guys bush whacking all thru Roxbourgh to get down to the Wissy OR are you fishing black water? hard to tell from pixs
Is it a secret spot due to hard to get to or fish are not colored up,hard to find?
Different nets different days? not opening day?
Mike you can put his or any digital pix in program that tells you type of camera and location of pixs etc,check it out date and time can be changes by user of camera @ set up. |
