Posted - 11/09/2012 : 17:50:31 Well I filled another buck tag this last weds . .I started the archery season with my crossbow and missed another one that makes 4 misses since last season .I really wanted to kill one with the crossbow before I broke out my new bow that I bought last year on a lay away plan from the money I earned at Penn . But after 4 misses from the crossbow I caved albeit 2 misses were my fault I cant explain the other 2 and both shots also had 2 lost bolts. I AM STILL CONVINCED THAT THE DEER CAN DUCK THE BOLT CAUSE IWAS RIGHT ON THEM TWICE AND THEY BOTH DAMN NEAR LAYED BELLY TO DIRT AFTER THE SHOT ITS VERY NOISY . So I broke out my new bow a mission bow made by Matthews very forgiving and easy to draw with a weight range from 17lbs to 70 lbs I set mine at 60 and that does not bother my shoulder and its easy to draw also it was not that hatrd on my wallet . I had a metting at the office on weds and it was over at 1 so I headed home and got suited up it was really a crappy day . But the rut is in and now is the time to get in the woods every chance you get . I was all settled in to my swampside stand in hopes of getting a crack at the 7 pointer that came by back when it was does only . I really did not want to hunt this stand cause the wind always blows right in youre face but thats were I last had the encounter with the 7 pointer . Also I break out all the stops when the end of oct comes and now that the rut is in I do not hold back its grunt city and rattlin time . I was rattlin at a deer up the top of the lot when it dissapeared into the swamp I hit the horns again asnd out came a deer that looked like satin himself w as chasin it . I ratlled a few more times and took a seat and then out of nowere a huge bodied buck appeared right in front of me I had no time cause he was heading for the swamp and I had but seconds to shoot . I do not rember what happened all I know was I came to full draw and when he walked into a clear lane about 30 yds out I BLEATED HIM TO STOP AND RELEASED . The buck mulekicked ran about 20 yds and pilled up dead as stone . I still waited and watched the deer lie but there was no moving so while kepping an eye on him and stowing all my gear I BEGAN TO MY APROACH AFTER THE PRESCRIBED HOUR WAIT . I readied another arrow and walked over to my buck a nice basket racked 5 pointer SWAMPDONKEY at the shot I thought I hit it a bit forward but at the crash site it was a pass thru hit right thru both shoulder blades muzzy broadheads are my new best friends . I gutted the deer and readied for the long drag back to the truck like 500 yds or better . I ATTACHED THE DRAGSTRAP/SAFTY HARNESS AND BAGAN PULLING NOFNWAY .I went back up to the truck and dumped my bow and any other extra weight filled out the tag and grabbed the plastic sled in the back of my truck and returned for my buck I loaded him on the sled and began the long drag back alot easier with the sled but I AM STILL SORE TODAY FROM THE LONG DRAG . I tried to lift him on the tailgate but I couyld not get up on there so I called my buddy Arty who was out looking for agiant 9 pointer he hit on tuesday and it still has not shown up yet oh well maybe it will survive cause none has found it yet . My deer is at the butcher and there will be many tasty meals to come . I still have 3 doe tags yet I HATE TO SAY IT BUT Ihope to shoot some smaller ones .
