Posted - 02/07/2011 : 16:37:54 wELL ANOTHER SEASON HAS COME AND GONE . Again this was another uneventful season being again boatless the few walk out hunts proved to be unsuccesful . This year I carried in some decoys to lake nockamixxon never to pull in any ducks although I hit a goose on thasnksgiving day that was ther only shooting I had at the Nox . The same rings true down the bay lots of high flying snows and very few ducks I scratched down 1 buffelhead down there and that was it . I AM WAITING FOR THE BIG THAW OUT SO WE CAN GET IN ON THE SNOWS UP AT THE LAKES .This was the year for deer hunting my 1st concern was for meat being jobless and all some nice venison would be nice in the freezer illiminating a meat bill . I completed this back in O ct and am slowly runnning low on the meast and I think there are only a few packs of ground meat left . My buddy gave me his old crossbow so after Xmas I headed back out to fill my 2 doe tags and hopefully top offf the freezer with more meat . I spent almost all my free time up in the tree over at my spot . Dicks had a huge sale right after xmas and I purchased some good stuff 1 is a onepc insulated jumpsuit in mossyoak that kept me verywarm even at 5deggrees the other was tree stands the ladder stands were down to $35 and I bought one of those . I set the stand about 200 yards from my existing stand right were I shot the swamp donkey back in Oct . The stand is up agasinst a big oak tree right on the dge of the swamp were a spring comes up out of the ground the spring never freezes and has stayed open all winter up to date . Welll I never did fill those tags but I have beecome a master at staying warm on stand for hours the key is nothing new just dress in layers and leave evrything opened and unzipped untill you are all settled in .B ack to that spring that stats by my stand well one night when it was real cold around 4:30 right before quiting time a bunch of mallards triedto land in that spring it scared the bejesus out of me with all the branchwes breaking and cahortiling as they tried to beat each other to the water . Tey all flared when I turned my head around the treee to have a look see I guess the blaze cap and the movement gave me away . Any way for several days they tried to get in there and it provided some great entertainment in the winter woodscape . I guess that was the only opern water around I also hnted that pond back there one day and missed anice green head thanks to a dud reload . Anyway this sring may provide a few nice duckhunts next year. We try to keep it as an archery only spot cause of all the suburban sprawl and it is a nice spot with more than a few pand y bucks so we do not want to ruin it with lots of gunfire but a few intermitant shots during the weekdays should be ok especialy with a 410 or 20 gauge . Any way the does for my 2 tags never showed up near my 2 tree stands and went un filled there was some sign back there but not nearly as much as the early fall when all the mastcrops and other good foods are around and thats why the deer never showed up in the late season . This year we want to put in some foodplots and wenever I start making money again I want to start addind some good mineral blocks in there for antlweer growth . I f anybody in the club knows anything about plasnting food plants I would love to pick youre brains . Untill next year all we have is the food plots and haybail shooting .
